Every time I try to put in a tampon I gag or nearly faint and I%26#039;m inable to do it so I%26#039;m stuck with using pads. I%26#039;m a virgin (of course) and I%26#039;ve tried to provoke myself to finger myself but I just can%26#039;t do it. I even cringe at the thought of putting a tampon in! It%26#039;s not that I%26#039;m grossed out by it, I%26#039;m afraid of what will happen and the pain that will come with breaking my hymen. What%26#039;s wrong with me, and how can I overcome this fear?
Have you tried using the slim versions of tampons.. they are made especially for begining tampon users. Also, make sure that the tampon type you ahve has a plastic applicator. it glides in easier. You can also invest in a little bit of lubricant to place on the applicator to make it slide in easier. The biggest thing is just for you to relax. when you are nervous or anxious about inserting the tampon, it will make you involuntarily contract your vaginal muscles making it hard to insert the tampon and causing pain if you try to push it in anyways. Get the right type of tampon, some lubricant, and lock yourself in the bathroom for a bit... sit on the toilet and relax or lye down on the floor and take some deep breaths. When you feel you are ready just try inserting it slowly. It shouldnt hurt as long as you are relaxed, and don%26#039;t worry about breaking your hymen... most girls have it broken way before they start using tampons or having sex because it is such a thin membrane that it often breaks on its own. Your hymen can retract anyways to allow the tampon to be inserted even if it is still intact.
If none of this works, don%26#039;t worry, pads are always a bit safer anyways because there is no risk of toxic shock system when using them. There is nothing wrong with you, it is totally normal to be nervous about stuff like this for the first time.
