Education:Bump on my neck and it hurts?

Bump on my neck and it hurts? I saw someone else post this description on yahoo! answers and this is EXACTLY the same situation i%26#039;m in.



Hi I am a 14 year old girl and today I woke up to find a bump about the size of a peanut on the front of my neck, an inch from being below my ear, basically below my jaw. If i push on the bump it hurts, but if I barely touch an area around the bump it hurts as bad or worse. Recently my shoulder on that same side has also become sore. However, I am not certain that the shoulder soreness is related because thats a whole other thing. I am not sure whether to be concerned about the bump or if it could just be a knot. It is pretty firm but I have no idea exactly what it is and I am beginning to worry. Anyone have any idea what it could be or what I should do?

i changed the description up a little bit because my age is actually 14 years and i don%26#039;t think it%26#039;s a bug bite. Oh and when i try to put my head to my ear it hurts.

it could be an infection of your saliva gland. try eating some sour candy. if that subsides it, thats what it is.

• It sounds like it could be your Lymph Nodes?
  Your Lymphatic systems helps your body fight badies.
  Occassionaly you can get minor infections in these nodes, whihc are located all around the body.
  Either that or you may have tonsilitis or Mumps?
  Have u had any other sypmtoms?
  If its only the bump that is sore then it could be a bite of some sort.
  Go to the pharmacy and see what they say, they might tell you to see a doctor
• hey don%26#039;t worry about it.....i had the same thing too.i was just as worried.so i had a knot below my chin ,when i moved my head , i was in pain.i went to the hospital and they told me it was a swollen lymph node,plus it was infected.they put me on antibiotics and it went away about a week.so go to the doctor.and just relax.
• It could just be a calcification, or like it was in my case, a benign tumor. I had one in my neck for about a year (about the size of a large pea) and had it removed in outpatient surgery.
  
  Have it checked out ASAP, but you are most likely just fine... I just know how painful and annoying those things are.

• i cant tell you what to do but the bump on your neck is cancer you can be killed by that go to the doctor soon or bye-bye to you. my mom is a doctor trust me i know

• comb it and see if it pusses mark
• hmm.. maybe you should get it checked out by a doctor. It could be anything.
