I%26#039;m a gymnast and if u do a hand-sprint or back hand-sprint and hit ur foot really hard u could fracture ur ankle, but sometimes if u r lucky u can sprain it instead of fracture. If u sprain it u need to immediately but ice on it, especially if u fractured it. the best way is to say in ur head when holding the ice pack on ur ankle is just to say: ur going to be fine.over and over again. thats what happened to my best friend and she said that it did to say ur going to be fine. so i hope u take my advice. experience

trust me, you do not want to fracture your ankle!
why? because it is very, very painful. Also, in order to fix the fracture, your leg would need to be immobilized for some 4-8 weeks. and in some cases, if the fracture is severe, surgery might be necessary... fracture means broken bones.
a sprained ankle means that a ligament in your ankle was stretched too much and there were some tear lesions inside this ligament, hence pain and inflammation, restricted movement of the joint etc. It is more likely to get a sprained ankle from gymnastics and jumping all around than it is getting a fractured ankle. If I were you, I%26#039;d really try to avoid both, since any kind of lesion to any joint in your legs could leave you with pain and incapacity to perform some movements for the rest of your life. Also, joint lesions take a long time to cure and usually leave marks, you will feel them as you get older. -
by doing them wrong, or makeing a mistake. it could twist the joint or put too much pressure on it. or sometimes if you over or under rotate. hope this helps :))

Your bones might be weak if you over-stress them (stress fractures), it can be a freak accident, by landing slightly off and it breaks.
