Fire ant allergies?? HUGE BITES?!?!? I got bit by a 3 fire ants on my right foot.
Now my foot is twice as big as normal, red, and itchy.
It happened last Sunday, and its getting bigger.

I%26#039;m NOT going to the doctor b/c my dad says its not necessary.
I think i%26#039;m allergic but i cant tell.

What do I do??
Should i just let it go away, ice isnt working and neither is the anti-itch ointment.
(the one bite near my ankle makes it hurt to step down) :[
(Its already Wednesday!!)

have your dad read this b/c he is WRONG!!!

you need to go to the emergency room right away. the reaction should have gone down a day after you were bitten. the fact that the bites are getting bigger and more painful is an indication of a severe allergic reaction.

my 5 year old daughter is also allergic to ants (as am I) and twice now, i%26#039;ve had to take her to the emergency room b/c her reaction was so bad (when her foot was bit, it got so bad she couldn%26#039;t walk).

they had to give her steriod medication and put an iv in her to help stop the reaction. I now carry an epi pen w/me b/c her reactions are so severe.

you are going to need steriod medication that only the hospital or dr%26#039;s office has.

tell your dad the longer he waits or the worse your reaction gets, the greater your chances of getting either an infection, cellulitis (swelling of the cells inside your skin tissue-this often requires surgery to correct), or cutting off bloodflow to your foot.

you need to go to the er-no exceptions!!! i work in trauma icu
allergic to ants
Asker's Rating:
The swelling hasnt gone down much but the redness has. There are 3 holes in my foot where i was bit. It doesnt hurt as bad to walk on it, but the one near my ankle bone is still swollen.
I think i%26#039;m gonna be fine.
Thanks for ur advice, i%26#039;m sure i%26#039;ll use it in the future.
(it really hurt!!)

  • Fire ants do that to me as well, but I am not allergic - that%26#039;s just fire ants. Try hydrocortisone cream or hemroid cream (which sounds disgusting but it helps cut down the swelling.) Also, baking soda draws out the poison, which helps with bee stings, too.

    Hope that helps!
  • use Benedryl as directed for a few days. monitor the swelling -keep the foot elevated and ice it. if the redness persists, go to an urgent care. listen to your dad if he%26#039;s a doctor.
