I rammed my foot on a wood trimming in my house do i need stitches? I rammed my foot on a wood trimming in my house and it split a toe down the middle about less then 1/2 inch in and a couple of centimeters down, Do i need stitches? The pain went away and i put neosporin and disinfectant on the cut and wrapped it with a bandage. Please respond right away.

if you were able to control the bleeding and you can%26#039;t spread the cut open more than an inch, then you should be ok.

wash it really well with warm water and mild soap. apply neosporin and wrap in gauze. keep it dry and clean, changing it at least twice a day.

report to the emergency room if

-you can%26#039;t get the bleeding to stop
-there is fatty tissue coming out of the cut
-there is increased redness or swelling to the cut area
-the cut becomes more painful,tender, or hot to touch
-it begins to drain liquid (yellowish-brown or green in color-pus)
-you begin to run a fever of 100.5 or higher
-there are red lines extending from the cut up your foot (indicates infection in the bloodstream)

these are all signs of infection and you%26#039;ll need antibiotics to treat it.

if not allergic, take ibuprofen for pain. 400-600mg every 6 hours but no more than 1200 mg in 24 hours. i work in trauma icu 100% 1 Vote
