Is expired saline solution okay to use? I%26#039;ve got a big bottle of medical grade saline solution (left over from when a former roommate needed to irrigate post surgery incisions). It expired three months ago. Should I assume that it%26#039;s gone %26quot;bad%26quot; and I shouldn%26#039;t use it? Someone suggested that I use it dab onto my kittens weepy eye.

if your talking about sodium chloride for irrigation, then yea its fine. We wouldn%26#039;t use it in the hospital but for your cat itll be fine. The main reason there is an expiration date is because it ideally should be sterile for irrigation. I wouldn%26#039;t guarantee the sterility after the expiration date but saline doesn%26#039;t expire that easily so it should be fine. im an er physician 100% 1 Vote

  • saline is basicly salt water... it should be okay but to be on the safe side( so its not bad for ur kitten) you can get new saline from basicly any store and its cheap. i have bottles from like 4 yrs ago that are fine and i use them all the time...
