Silvadene is a prescribed ointment that is almost always used for burns it has an antibiotic in it to help fight infection. Burns have a high risk of getting an infection because of the depth of the broken skin integrity and the material that caused the burn getting into the tissue. He will need to be on an oral antibiotic along with the silvadene on the burn. The burn needs to be covered also to help reduce the potential for a bad infection. I hope he feels better soon because burns hurt so bad. I had a bad burn on my stomach when I was about seven a whole coffee pot full of coffee turned over on landed on my stomach. To this day I would rather you take a knife and cut me an inch deep than get a burn. Be sure he gets it checked out by a doctor but use the silvadene until then. Hope he feels better soon. nurseOther Answers (3)

You shouldn%26#039;t put anything on a burn, except cold water. So I would say neither.
