you need to know where the nearest exit is
also if the fire is very big you should crawl along the floor till you reach the exit as the oxygene is ok down there
prefarably with a damp clothe round your nose and mouth to avoid inhaling smoke
if you live on an apartment building and exits are closed off you need to make sure you can get out either by window or balcony but try to throw a mattress out first so you have somewhere to land on.
