Are my friend's self harm cuts infected?

Are my friend%26#039;s self harm cuts infected? She said near the cut%26#039;s a big black lump has appared with a redness around it. its not a scab. I told her to wash it with soap and water. Do you think it%26#039;s infected?

she should really see a doctor, how long ago she do this? She might need anti biotic to help clear it?!?!? and for general washing of wounds I%26#039;d be using warm salty water, or detiol ;) and i%26#039;d keep the cut open (let air get to it!) ~ but i%26#039;d be seeking med help!

• It very well may be, and as great as soap and water is I don%26#039;t know how much that%26#039;s going to do at this point. Granted you need to keep it clean, but I think you%26#039;d need to get some anti-biotics. If it gets worse, go get a prescription, but if it%26#039;s small just wait it out.
• Sounds infected to me. Maybe worse, gangrenous. She needs to get it looked at by a doctor before she gets very ill.
