My 15 mth old developed a huge welt from a mosquito bite and his doctor isn%26#039;t in. What should I do? My 15 month old son got bit 24 hours ago by a mosquito and at first it looked like just a bad bite. This morning it had a nickel sized welt around it so we put Benadryl (sp?) spray on it. It%26#039;s just gotten worse and now it%26#039;s half the size of his forehead. I don%26#039;t want to bring him to the ER if it%26#039;s unnecessary, especially so close to bedtime. Do allergic reactions take 24 hours to show up? What can I do? Thanks!

West Nile Virus doesn%26#039;t show up immediately in a patient so it%26#039;s best to have an emergency room tech take a look at it. The benadryl should have helped some but since the site has gotten larger I%26#039;d have it checked out... 100% 1 Vote

  • It could also be an allergic reaction from the benadryl spray...wash his forehead, see if the swelling goes down in a couple hours, and then take him to the ER if it doesn%26#039;t.
And don%26#039;t worry. You would definitely know by now if the mosquito carried a virus, or if he was badly allergic to the bites. More than just his forehead would be swollen. 0% 0 Votes
  • im allergic to both mosquitos and sand flies which is really bad in summer. I also experience these welts, get a pen and draw around the swelling, put an ice pack on the bite wait 30mins to an hour.... have a look at the swelling... has it gotten bigger if so.... draw another pen line around it and repeat process if it increasingly gets swollen quickly and swelling is doubling in size each time perhaps take him to the er after the 4th time of doin this process. are there any other symptoms such as trouble breathing??? is he still seem like his normal self? 0% 0 Votes
  • take him to thee er a mosquito bite shoud%26#039;nt get that big unless hes allergic reaction.and if it is get him there quick allergies is nothing to play with 0% 0 Votes
  • if anything expands or shows signs that it may get worse obviously take him/her to the ER. You never know. it may carry a virus 0% 0 Votes
