How bad is this cat scratch? (Pics)? My cat just attacked my face and my hand after getting in a fight with my dog and I have a small cut inside my ear (which bled a LOT) and a bigger cut on the side of my hand which also bled a good deal. I also have a few nick-type cuts in several other places. I just want to make sure everything doesn%26#039;t get infected. I washed everything with peroxide and anti-biotic cream. You can%26#039;t see the other side of my face from the picture, but there is a scratch right beside my ear similar to the hand one.

I don%26#039;t know if that%26#039;s bad enough to see a doctor for anti biotics or even to get it glued or whatever. I know it%26#039;s not bad enough for stitches or anything...

Thanks. I%26#039;m in pain. haha.

it looks painful. but it will heal by itself as long you keep it clean. i had some that bad too. they left little scars, but i scar easily, so it may leave a lasting impression on you, except emotionally. you%26#039;ll be alright.

  • well i would see a doctor just in case, even after being cleaned out there are some lingering bacterium in the cuts. you would be amazed with all of the bacteria under cats nails, so sometimes if one of those bacteria stays under the skin for just the right amount of time, you can get sick. if you start experiencing flu like symptoms, i would definitely go see a doctor. there is actually a virus called cat scratch fever, and it is exactly like it sounds, a nasty infection. hope ive helped ive had it before
  • hell no. I have 3 cats and i have had cat scatches that have cut up my knuckel and you can see the bone. It will stop hurting in like 3 seconds.
  • see how it feels in about a week. if it doesn%26#039;t get better then see a doctor.
thats why i don%26#039;t like cats that much. dogs are SO much better!
  • keep putting a antibacterial ointment on the scratches, as long as kitty is all up to date on shots/vaccines you have nothing to worry about.
  • I think it could heal, but id get it checked, the cat may be clean but better to be safe.
  • I would contact your doctor - maybe get a tetanus shot...I wonder how long after visiting the cat box your cat scratched you? Sounds gross maybe but you could have some nasty bacteria in the cut....
  • When did you have your last tetanus shot? I%26#039;d just keep it clean and keep Neosporin on it...and watch the scratched. You%26#039;re probably ok.
  • always see the doctor, never take risks
  • I couldn%26#039;t get the link to the photo to work, but know what cat scratches look like. If yours swell, try taking an antihistamine. That works for me. I have a mild allergy to the little darlings, so their scratches swell up and look horrible.

Otherwise, use your peroxide two or three times a day and the antibiotic ointment after each use of peroxide. Covered cuts heal faster (and often neater) because they don%26#039;t dry out. Keep them covered if you reasonably can. If you see signs of infection, even after you%26#039;ve been using these products, then consider seeing a doctor.
