How long will it take for my sunburn to go away? Yesterday i went to the beach and got burnt quite badly on my back and shoulders. I%26#039;m using aloe vera a lot but i was wondering how long it will take to go away and turn into a tan. I don%26#039;t usually burn easily, and when i do it hardly ever peels. what else can i do to make it heal faster?

Like everyone else has said, there%26#039;s really not much else you can do but wait it out, and the time frame is different for everyone. For me, it takes about a five days to a week before it settles down into a tan, and I%26#039;m asian.

Just a little tip: Try refrigerating your aloe vera! It feels so amazing when you put it on your burns. :) 29% 2 Votes

  • I know that you%26#039;ve probably heard the aloe vera thing A LOT...believe me...but it really does help if you keep reapplying it. If you store it in the fridge, it can give you more of a relief when you first put it on.

Ice packs (in small amounts of time) and cold cloths or compresses will also help to minimize the length of time that you have redness and should help with the swelling.

Make sure that you drink PLENTY of water, in order to keep your body hydrated so you don%26#039;t develop a fever. If you do develop a fever, take an acetaminophen or an ibuprofen to help get rid of the fever and to minimize inflammation and swelling.

If your sunburn is really bad and seems to be very painful, you may want to go see your doctor and get a prescriptive treatment. 14% 1 Vote
  • The only thing you can really do is to keep covering it in sunscreen and maybe even putting something cold on your back, maybe even a wet cloth.
It usually lasts 1-2 weeks for the pain. The appearance should be gone in 3-4 weeks.
It%26#039;s going to be hard to sleep, so maybe before you go to bed I suggest you could put an ice bag on your back. 14% 1 Vote
  • it will take a few weeks to heal and then maybe still be sore. i suggest you do no take boiling hot showers because they may cause your sunburn to turn into a 3rd degree burn. keep applying sunscreen even if your not going outside, you can even use body lotions or some sort of cream. do not cover with make-up if it%26#039;s on your face because it causes it to block and it might take longer to heal. hope this helps. 0% 0 Votes
  • hehe, if you%26#039;re asian it should go away faster, like 2-3 days for me. but i know white ppl whose sunburns don%26#039;t go away for like 2 weeks. ouch!! aloe vera is good, and wal-mart usually sells some good sunburn cream. 14% 1 Vote
