OUCH !! I have an ingrown finger nail :( How do i treat it? I can%26#039;t even touch it...? I dont want to go to the doc.
it is getting swollen and has pus.

Since you dont want to go to the doc, your going to go in an cut it out yourself. At least at the doc office they can numb it for you. You need to get it treated before you end up loosing your whole finger to an infection.

Asker's Rating:: thanks . i ended up taking out the pus and it relieved alot of pressure... it wasnt an ingrown just an infection from biting my nails.

Put some antibiotic ointment and a bandaid on it overnight, in the morning it should be less sore. If you still can%26#039;t touch it, do it again another night. By then, most of the infection should be gone, and you should be able to cut it out. If not, you need to see a doctor. You will probably need oral antibiotics. Nurse for 13 years. History of ingrown toenails.

wow i have the same thing right now! but its on my big toe! i must say it kills! what u do is get espom salt and pour a couple teaspoons of it in a container and add warm water and soak your hand in it for 15-20 minutes three times a day. after soak put wedging a piece of cotton into the corner of your nail (the side that is lumpy) and if it doesnt improve in 3 days go see the doctor.
what caused it is your probably cutting your nails too short and curving it. from now one trim straight across and dont cut to short!

wow alot of painful solutions here....try putting a little bit of cotton under the nail, its painful but will eventually work by pushing the nail out from under the skin.
soak it in warm salt water. use peroxide and even poke a clean needle in it to relieve the pressure. Keep your socks off to let air get to it so it can heal. pain relievers too.
Try submerging it in salt water or TCP from the pharmacy, if its exuding pus you might need antibiotics from the Doc., do not leave it too long an infection will cause more trouble and pain.
soak it in warm water and maybe yank out the hang nail and it will heal itself
