How do you prevent a scar from forming? Will I get a scar from a scratch that scraped my skin off or? will the skin just grow back and leave no scar? This is for my 5yr old who got scratched by another kid.

Any damage to the skin, from a severe sunburn to a scrape, can potentially scar. I had a scar on my hand from a scrape that hardly bled for years and years.

The faster the wound heals, the less the scarring will be. Keep the cut clean and regularly apply products like Neosporin. Not only does the Neosporin keep the cut from getting inflected, it keeps the cut moist in the beginning of the healing process. That moisture is critical for preventing scarring later on down the line. Getting the Neosporin that contains Vitamin E, or just breaking open a vitamin E capsule and rubbing it gently onto the wound, will also encourage fast, scar-less healing.

Of course, tell him not to pick at it. Picking at it and breaking it back open will cause excess build up of scar tissue.

Continuing to use vitamin E on the area until it%26#039;s 100% healed will also prevent scarring. If it scars anyway, try a product like Mederma (which really just contains onion extract gel, which you can buy alone and is significantly cheaper than name-brand Mederma). • The best way to prevent a scar from forming is to properly treat the underlying wound. Placing a Band-Aid early and keeping it covered with something like neosporin is a great start. For any wound that leaves a visible hole or gap between the skin edges, the scar will be smaller if the skin edges can be kept closer together. That%26#039;s why doctors will use stitches, skin tape or skin glue. Also, the larger the scab, the more likely the scar will be large. So keep the scab moist rather than letting it dry out. In addition, the longer the scab stays in place the smaller the scar. Keeping kids from picking off their scabs is difficult to say the least, but the longer you can keep it in place, the smaller the scar. Finally, there may be some benefit to using vitamin E ointment after the scab is gone to reduce scarring. Hope that helps!
  • Well, the younger you are, the more prone to scarring; the skin overcompensates for the healing. Your 5 year old will probably end up with a scar no matter what you do, but if you keep the scratch clean and bandaged any scarring will be minimal.
  • Well... just clean it up and should be fine, then get ur kid over 2 sort that other kid out let ur kiddo know there no1%26#039;s punch bag.
  • You know what seems to really help is Neosporin. For some reason if I use that on cuts and scrapes, no scarring occurs.
  • well they have a lot of scar creams available over the counter that help
