First of all, control the pain. Use Tylenol or ibuprofen.

Second, stop the burning. Take frequent cool baths or gentle cool showers.

Third, protect the skin. Aloe does work to protect the skin, but so does something like Solar-Cain spray, which also is a topical pain killer.

Fourth, cover the skin to decrease air flow. Contact with air (or clothes rubbing over the skin) is a large source of the pain. Wear tight-fitting, light-weight clothes to cover the burned areas; be sure you%26#039;re not wearing anything that will just keep rubbing on it.

Those steps should help and, obviously, stay out of the sun until you%26#039;re healed.

  • well, obviously if you%26#039;ve microwaved yourself to a nice lobster red hue......then no, it may seem like Aloe is a waste of time.......but the fact is, is DOES help relieve the heat build up, and restore the skin. There are no easy quick fixes for cooked flesh. It just takes time, alot of aloe, and don%26#039;t wear clothing that will irritate or aggravate the condition for now.
Good luck. I know the feeling . It%26#039;s not fun, I know. Just keep applying the aloe in generous doses, frequently.....the trick to reduce the suffering, is keeping the skin, cool and moist, at all times.
  • The best thing to do is to re-moisturize your skin and keep it that way while the sunburn heals. Start with oatmeal baths once or twice a day. The products that are on the market for chicken pox will work well for sunburn. These help by soothing the skin and adding moisture to it. While in the bath, the pain may disappear almost completely, and it should be reduced some afterwards, especially if used in combination with oral medications (Advil). This oatmeal adds ‘natural moisture,’ which is what you should aim for in lotions as well.

The baths should be continued for three or four days, until the redness begins to fade and the pain is lessened. The lotion should be continued for a week or two, because even after the pain fades, the skin is not done healing.
