ok you know what she is choking on you could actually see it in the back of her throwt but she can;t bring it up on her own.You call 911,I read with a toddler/young child you put them chest down with their chin uppward.It%26#039;s not working! by now a disbatcher is gathering info for EMS and explaining how to perform CPR accordingly.It%26#039;s still not working!the child is turnig blue her chest is trying to pull oxygen in but her airway is still blocked! It%26#039;s been over 2 minutes EMS still hasn%26#039;t arrived! Your instinc tells you this child%26#039;s life is about to expire! What do you do?
  • I also am concerned that you would want to do a tracheotomy on a child without any training. As other responses have stated, call 911 immediately, begin doing the Heimlich maneuver. NEVER do a blind finger sweep (NEVER reach into the child%26#039;s mouth if you cannot visualize what the child is choking on. This could lodge the item further.
  • Im kinda worried on why you would ask this question.

A medicaly trained person, like a paramedic is trained on how remove foreign bodies using hemlich manuever or devices like mgill forceps. Additionaly, in the presence of complete obstructions unrelieved by the above procedures they can do cricothotomy and deliver some life prolonging treatment.

Flight nurses and doctors might also do trachetomies.

If your not one of the above professional medical trained people, stick with calling 911 and hemlich manievers.
  • I would leave that to the paramedics. Honestly it%26#039;s a better idea to just do thrusts until an ambulance arrives. You are risking cutting many major blood vessels, cutting too deep, causing a huge infection, and the list goes on and on.

You will cause more harm than good.

What you can try is something called a finger sweep. You insert a finger as far back into her throat as possible in an attempt to remove the object lodged in her throat. Finger sweep combined with your abdominal thrusts are a great combination.
  • is that where you cut on the throat and insert a straw? if it is...i learned that it is possible in health class but you need to know exactly how to do it... ask the kid%26#039;s doctor
