Can a burn from salt and ice give a 3rd degree burn? Please don%26#039;t tell me that it won%26#039;t burn at all because I have already seen evidence on my boyfriend that it can give burns. i noticed the mark hurt more and got darker and darker.the next day some really stupid kid keeps poking it then suddenly my skin ripped and was all pink under. i noticed it didnt bleed so i went o the nurse and said it was a partially sever burn. so now i gotta disinfect and change it 3 times a day. so for those who say its just irritation or it does nothing. email me at
airshot.buster@yahoo.com and i will show you the wound. and yes it did get infected so please dont try this.

  • No. There is nothing present in either substance that would literally eat through all of the tissues.

And contrary to the gentleman above me, a third degree burn is down to, and including, the bone.

The %26quot;burn%26quot; is actually an irritation, or (in the case of the ice) frostbite. It will redden, but not eat through the tissue. paramedic 0% 0 Votes
  • It absolutely does cause a blister, but not a 3rd degree burn. I would classify the burn from salt and ice as a 2nd degree burn for sure though.

I was dared as a teen to pour salt on my ankle and lay a cube of ice over it. After just a minute or two i had a huge blister on my skin and it hurt like the dickens. I don%26#039;t know how or why it happens as I am not a science guru, but it does. 0% 0 Votes
  • While the ice won%26#039;t actually %26quot;burn%26quot; the skin, it can have the same effect. A 3rd degree burn occurs when the flesh is actually charred. The result is dead flesh. If the ice and salt mixture is cold enough and held in place long enough, the flesh will freeze and die (frostbite). The results are similar and the first aid and treatment is the same. 0% 0 Votes
  • My husband had third degree burns from methylated spirits that exploded in face. They were very severe and like paramedic said, down to the bone.
I dont think salt and ice can do that.
Took 4 weeks to get better, isolation and all, for severe risk of infection.
In other words, 3rd degree burns, you know about it when you have it, thats for sure. 0% 0 Votes
