If we put homeopathic remedies in the water supply would we be able to cure everyone of everything?

Ferrari Babe: yes, for everyone. Homeopathy can cure everything from cancer to AIDS to depression to %26quot;negativity%26quot;. It%26#039;s amazing technology.

Juliet: that%26#039;s the great thing about homeoquackery. The more you dilute a remedy, the more effective it becomes!!

swanjarv...: It%26#039;s hardly %26quot;specific to each person%26quot; when homeopathic remedies are for sale online and in so-called health shops without any advice from a quack.

But even pretending that what you say is correct...

We could put every available remedy in the water supply, so every possible combination would be there anyway. If someone took some remedies that weren%26#039;t relevant, what difference would it make? As homeopaths constantly point out, the stuff is totally harmless!

Vivacity: Homeopathy is the opposite of science.

Ha ha. I like your thinking.

First of all, the answer%26#039;s NO, not everything, even if the homeopaths are right. Their claim would only be that the remedies would cure those few conditions that homeopathy claims to cure.

However, your main point is right: if homeopaths%26#039; claim that an infinitissimaly small dose of an active ingredient is actually more effective than a proper dose, then the best way to dilute it would be putting a small amount in the water supply. Needless to say, I reckon they%26#039;re talking rubbish and the experiment you suggest would show this up for what it is.

Ironically, this experiment would not even yield the (minimal) benefits that homeopathic treatments actually have - these benefits tend to come from the placebo effect people experience when they feel that they are being %26#039;treated%26#039; and %26#039;medicated%26#039;. Plus the warm, cosy, friendly environment of a homeopath%26#039;s office can enhance this effect.

I predict that homeopaths will be split in their answers to this question. %26#039;Genuine%26#039; (ie deluded) homeopaths will say that this experiment would work (since it should do according to homeopathic principles). Any homeopaths who say it would not work (and who no doubt would come up with a spurious reason as to why not) will be those who know that all they%26#039;re doing is providing a placebo effect (absent in the experiement) and are therefore out and out frauds.

The sooner we start treating homeopaths like the conmen (and women) they are, the better. If a doctor gave someone a placebo telling them it was real medicine they%26#039;d be struck off. Common sense. I would cite peer-reviewed studies comparing the benefits of homeopathy to placebos, but what a shame - none exist. I%26#039;d challenge anyone disagreeing with me to cite a single proper study demonstrating the effectiveness of homeopathy beyond the placebo effect.

You%26#039;re probably correct. What conditions can homeoquackery cure this week anyway?
